Multi-disciplinary design combines an empathetic and curious way of seeing the world with rigorous method of observation, ideation, and development.
I was born and lived majority of my life in Dubai. Growing up in a deserted land I have seen how to build from nothing to something. Before even knowing the term ‘Design’ I would always reimagine my surroundings and objects that could have been improvised or executed better. It wasn’t until undergrad that I finally got into Interior/Architecture. Developing spaces, models, crafts, you name it.
I started studying Interior/Architecture at Manipal University, and started to grow my network. I come from supply of Hardware and Electrical family business background, where I was given an opportunity to start my freelance journey by designing the showrooms for the business, and word of mouth clients. Going school during the day and cranking on design work at night. Not only was I learning the basics of quality design, but I was understanding what it meant to be entrepreneurial doing freelance work.
My “professional” gig was with Andrew Bannister Design and SS Design in Dubai. Both being start-ups its there I learned to grind…like really crank out work and do it with some quality. With 1 year at Andrew Bannister I worked on multiple residential projects, Pent house at Princess Tower, Shiekha’s Villa and Palm Jumierah. After moving to SS Design, I got into commercial design along with residential design, Dhakan Jewelers, Downtown Dubai Projects, Palm Jumierah, and Falcon City to name a few. Both workplace gave me the opportunity to work on conceptual drawings, AutoCAD layouts, 3D drawings, moreover supervise sites and directly dealing with clients/contractors.
After total of 3 years into Interior design journey, I moved to New York City to pursue my Masters in Strategic Design Management at Parsons School of Design. This was a new stepping stone, new place, new me kinda scene. The journey was incredibility challenging, attending school along with multiple jobs to survive the city. Donghia Material Lab - a material library promoting sustainable and eco-friendly material and NUMA New York - an incubator for international startups, I worked on multiple 12-week programs with the startups in launching their business to the US Market.
I landed a full time position with startup ViaBill, an alternate payment platform. I worked with creative team, designed the website, premium product platform and marketing materials. Sel myself Figma and Sketch to develop wireframes & prototype for the platform. Due to COVID, I was one the person to lose the position but fortunately I had a network of creatives to reach out and was able to find freelance work with Theory Marketing Partners.
I love what I do. The combination of business goals, mixed with human necessity, mixed with solid design is what gets me going every day. Don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like to chat about design, life, or just have a good ol' fashioned conversation.
